Integration (30 mins):
Next week, the group will have a debate/moderation)on the motion: This House Believes There Is No Room For Conceptual Thinking In Problem Solving. In the lead up to the debate, use this time (and whatever digital/physical tools) to get the students thinking about what they have learned across the module so far that might feed into their perspectives across: Problems 2a, Superconcepts and Mental Models, Materials and Making, Design Thinking, Visual and Creative Methods, and Machine Learning.
Activity 1 - Individual reflections (5 minutes): Each person should choose a different module to represent. Individually reflect on how this module might influence your initial response to the motion. You can add your thoughts to a digital/physical board
Activity 2 - Collective reflections (5-10 minutes): As a group, read everyone's notes and drawing any connections between perspectives
Activity 3 - Collective questions (15 minutes): As a group, discuss at least one of the following questions:
- What connections are there between the first and the second disciplinary perspective of Problems 2a?
- Did you learn any concepts in Data Studies which might have relevance outside of Problems 2a (e.g. in your Visual Methods or Machine Learning modules)?
- Do you think that the authors of the AI White Paper should have used more Design Thinking principles when they were creating their regulatory framework for AI? Which ones might have been relevant?
Next steps (10 mins):
Propelling your learning further
a. What perspectives are currently missing and which ones would you want to consider for your debate?
b. How did you get on with prep culture? What got in the way (if anything) of completing your prep work? Explore prep-work accountability partners within coaching.
